What Are the Treatments for Cerebellum Glioma?
-
Surgery
-
Brain surgery is the most common treatment for removing a glioma. Even if the glioma is only partially removed, pressure will be removed from the brain. This will decrease the severity of the symptoms.
External Beam Radiation
-
External beam radiation delivers radiation from outside of the body. This treatment requires five days of radiation on a weekly basis.
Fractionalized Stereotactic Radiotherapy
-
This treatment method preserves healthy tissue by using minimal amounts of radiation. The number of doses given is determined by the size of the tumor.
Vaccine and Viral Therapies
-
In this method, the glioma is controlled through the induction of immune cells used to attack the tumor. Inductions of modified viruses may also be used.
Corticosteroids
-
Corticosteroids come in pill and liquid form. They are used to reduce the swelling and size of gliomas.
