Brain Tumor Symptoms & Facial Paralysis

Brain tumors are both noncancerous and cancerous. Tumors in the brain result from an abnormal growth of cells. The cells begin to grow and divide at an out-of-control amount. Brain tumors have many symptoms, facial paralysis being one.
  1. Brain Tumor Symptoms and Facial Paralysis

    • Facial paralysis can result with a brain tumor. The paralysis generally develops slowly and will cause headaches, hearing loss or seizures.

    Brain Tumor and Seizures

    • One-third of brain tumor patients experience seizures as their first symptom. Seizures are a result of the interruption of the normal electricity flow in the brain. Seizures are the most common symptom of a brain tumor.

Brain Tumor and Mental and Personality Changes

    • Behavior problems may occur, such as changes in personality and temperament. Problems with communication, memory, confusion, concentration and severe difficulties with intellect may occur because of building pressure from the tumor inside the brain. This tumor presence can affect areas of the brain that control personality.

    Brain Tumor and Mass Effect

    • Vomiting, nausea, vision problems, headaches and mental changes can result from mass effect. These symptoms may occur as the pressure within the skull is increased by the growth of the tumor. It may also be a result of hydrocephalus, fluid flowing around and through the brain, being blocked, and/or by edema-swelling around the tumor and of the brain as a result of fluid accumulating.

Brain Tumor and Focal and Localized Symptoms

    • Focal symptoms include decreased muscle control, hearing loss and other problems like buzzing sounds, decreased sensation, lack of coordination, weakness or paralysis, balance problems, difficulty with walking and double vision.
