Oncocytomas Carcinoid Disease

Oncocytoma carcinoid disease is the condition of having a tumor comprised of oncocytes, a specific type of cell. This disease presents itself in many different places and its tumors can be benign or malignant.

    • Oncocytoma carcinoid disease is most likely to affect those over the age of 60, and is usually more prevalent in males than females.

    • Oncocytoma carcinoid disease can occur in many different organs, including the kidneys and pancreas, and can affect many other different glands and areas as well.

    Oncocytes

    • Oncocytes, the cells that make up an oncocytoma, are large cells that appear to have small nuclei with sizable nucleoli. The nuclei in these cells appear benign.

    Oncocytoma

    • There are many different types of oncocytoma, including somewhat common kinds such as renal, salivary gland, and thyroid. Renal oncocytoma are found in the kidney, salivary gland oncocytoma occur in the parotid gland, and thyroid oncocytoma are in the thyroid.

    Prevention

    • As oncocytoma carcinoid disease is difficult to detect, it is best to prevent health problems by regularly seeing a physician who can distinguish internal signs much more easily.
