Kidney Cancer Therapy

Kidney cancer is a condition in which a tumor impacts the kidney. Since the kidney plays a crucial role in filtering toxins out of the blood and removing waste products, kidney cancer can be a frightening condition. Fortunately, several therapies have been developed to cure kidney cancer.
  1. Immunotherapy

    • Cytokines are given to a patient in order to boost the immune system with hope that the immune system will fight off the cancer.

    Target Therapies

    • Drugs like Sorafenib, Sunitinib, Temsirolimus, Everolimus and Bevacizumab prevent the conditions that lead to kidney cancer, preventing this cancer from developing in the first place.

    Surgery

    • Surgery involves removing all or part of the patient's kidney. In some cases, the patient can function fine with one kidney. However, there are times when the patient will need a kidney donation.

    Radiation Therapy

    • Radiation therapy for the kidney uses external beam radiation in order to eradicate or slow the growth of tumor cells in the kidney.

    Chemotherapy

    • In rare instances, chemotherapy is used to fight kidney cancer. But chemotherapy does not always work with kidney cancer, as opposed to other forms of cancer.
