Fibroid Neuroma

A fibroid neuroma is a pelvic tumor, also known as a uterine fibroid. Women are susceptible during their childbearing years or after the onset of menstruation until menopause. Although no specific causes are known, this noncancerous growth is associated with estrogen production, according to MedlinePlus.
  1. Characteristics

    • These tumors can be microscopically small or large enough to occupy the entire uterus. When one appears, others are probable. Some are found in the muscle wall, others in the lining and some even extend beyond the uterus' outside walls.

    Symtoms

    • Sometimes fibroid tumors are first found during a regular gynecological exam and patients, usually women over 30, are surprised because of a lack of symptoms. However, bleeding between periods, heavy flows, abdominal gas and cramping are fairly common with sufferers.

    Treatments

    • Mild cases are not treated but are closely monitored. Hormonal, ultrasound and other treatments are also used to shrink or destroy the tumors. However, the most common treatment is the more invasive hysterectomy, or removal of the uterus, according to the RightHealth website.
