How to Treat a Decubitus Ulcer

A decubitus ulcer, or pressure sore, is a condition when the skin of a particular area becomes reddened due to prolonged pressure on it, resulting in poor blood circulation. Some other contributing factors of decubitus ulcer are diabetes, poor hygiene, under-nutrition and dehydration. Here's how to treat a decubitus ulcer.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the pressure on the affected area of your body to avoid further damage to the tissue. Change the position of the wounded area every two hours.

    • 2

      Keep the affected area clean.

    • 3

Apply skin lotions and emollients to moisturize surrounding tissues. Dryness of the wound area can worsen the ulcer.

    • 4

Use soft cushions and pads around the wound to protect it from further friction.

    • 5

Increase your intake of protein and vitamin C to help the wound heal faster. Under-nutrition often worsens the situation.
