Signs of Helicobacter Pylori Infection

According to the gichannel.com, bacteria called Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori for short) cause up to 90 percent of all stomach ulcers.
  1. Transmission

    • Most people get infected by the Helicobacter pylori bacteria through contaminated food and water and also from saliva via person to person contact.

    Common Symptoms

    • Most patients report abdominal pain, bad breath, oily stools, excessive burping, excessive gas, weight loss due to loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting.

    Serious Complications

    • As with any stomach ulcer, there is the risk of perforation, when the ulcer eats through the side of the stomach lining. There is also the risk of bleeding if the stomach acid burns through the blood vessels. An H. pylori ulcer can also cause an obstruction, blocking food from leaving the stomach.

    Symptoms of Complications

    • If you experience sudden severe abdominal pain, bloody bowel movements, or start vomiting up blood, you need to get medical attention immediately.

    Treatment

    • H. pylori ulcers are typically treated with a two-week course of antibiotics and acid reducer, barring any complications.
