What causes ulcers on the body?
Stomach ulcers are open sores that develop on the lining of the stomach.
Causes of stomach ulcers:
* Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) bacteria is the most common cause of stomach ulcers. This bacteria lives in the stomach and can damage the lining, leading to ulcer formation.
* Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen, can irritate the stomach lining and cause ulcers.
* Other factors, such as smoking, drinking alcohol, and stress, can also contribute to the development of stomach ulcers.
Canker sores (aphthous ulcers) are small, painful ulcers that develop on the inside of the mouth.
Causes of canker sores:
* Trauma to the mouth, such as biting the inside of your cheek, can trigger a canker sore.
* Stress can also lead to canker sores.
* A deficiency in certain vitamins and minerals, such as vitamin B12, iron, and zinc, can also cause canker sores.
* Food allergies or sensitivities, such as allergies to gluten or strawberries, can also trigger canker sores.
* Hormonal changes, such as those that occur during menstruation, can also lead to canker sores.
Pressure ulcers (bedsores) are open sores that develop on the skin due to prolonged pressure.
Causes of pressure ulcers:
* Being confined to a bed or wheelchair for a long period of time is the most common cause of pressure ulcers.
* Poor nutrition can also contribute to pressure ulcers.
* Certain medical conditions, such as diabetes and spinal cord injuries, can also increase the risk of developing pressure ulcers.
