Can a leg ulcer cause diabetic retinopathy?

Leg ulcers are not directly linked to the development of diabetic retinopathy. Diabetic retinopathy is a complication of diabetes and affects blood vessels within the retina in the eye. It is caused by damage to the tiny blood vessels in the back of the eye as a result of high blood sugar levels. Leg ulcers, on the other hand, are typically caused by insufficient blood flow or poor circulation in the legs and are related to poor blood circulation and damage to skin and tissues in the lower extremities.
