How to Cure an Ulcer Holistically

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, over 25,000,000 Americans battle with ulcers, a condition that causes burning in the abdomen because of a sore or hole in the lining of the stomach. Symptoms include internal bleeding (which shows up in bowel movements that appear as dark and red) nausea, vomiting and loss of appetite. Antibiotics are typically used to cure ulcers; however, holistic measures have proven quite effective.

Take a ginger supplement or eat honey-candied ginger to prevent bacteria growth. Couple this with licorice root intake, up to three cups per day if drinking it in tea form. Licorice also comes in pill formulation; it contains glycyrrhizic acid, an anti-ulcer compound. Purchase either formulation from a health food store.

    • 2

Make an anti-ulcer fruit cocktail. Cut up a banana and pineapple and place them in a serving bowl. Add a handful of blueberries. Season the fruit with cinnamon and ginger. Sweeten with honey. Eat daily until symptoms diminish.

    • 3

Make amendments to your lifestyle and diet. Increase your intake of fruits and vegetables. Eat more foods that contain flavinoids (apples, cranberries, celery). Quit smoking and cut down on alcohol, coffee (decaffeinated as well) and sodas because of their acid-producing qualities.

    • 4

Reduce stress with deep breathing exercises. Get to a quiet place, lie or sit down, and inhale deeply and slowly through your nose. Exhale slowly through your lips. Try this upon waking up in the morning and before going to bed at night. Yoga classes also will help to reduce your pain and eliminate the need to use non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

The Pranayam Technique for Stress Reduction

    • 5

Empty your bladder and bowels before beginning, then sit on the floor on a folded blanket. Make sure your back is erect from the base of your spine to your neck.

    • 6

Press your right thumb against the right side of your nose and inhale using your left nostril. Repeat this exercise ten to fifteen times, then do the same inhaling with your right nostril.

    • 7

Inhale and exhale through your mouth. Constrict your throat as if something is choking you.

    • 8

Lie down on your back and close your eyes. Breath normally, then slowly take deep breaths. Inhale through your nose, slowly filling your stomach. Exhale through your mouth until your stomach is drawn in.

    • 9

Repeat each technique up to ten times.
