Look for an ointment at drugstores that contains benzocaine, menthol, and/or eucalyptol. Put the ointment on the sore according to the ointment's directions.

Wet a black tea bag with water, and place the wet tea bag onto the sore several times a day. The tannins from the tea will help ease the pain of the open sore.
