Foods Not to Eat With Pylori Bacteria

H. pylori bacteria is often the cause of stomach ulcers. Ulcers form abrasions in the stomach, causing pain and discomfort. Dietary limitations can be taken to improve the conditions of the ulcers.
  1. Significance

    • Diet is not a cure for stomach ulcers but dietary changes will help decrease pain caused by H. pylori by decreasing stomach acid production. Maintaining a healthy, well-balanced diet may prevent reoccurring stomach ulcers.

    Acid-Producing Foods

    • Certain foods cause increased acid production, including coffee, chocolate and cayenne pepper. Smoking and alcohol also increase acid production.

    Individual Intolerances

    • Individuals have different tolerances to foods with regards to acid production. Common irritants include tomatoes, citrus fruits and high-fat foods. Individuals with stomach ulcers should avoid these foods if tolerance is unknown.

    Fiber

    • High-fiber foods, such as vegetables and whole grains, can suppress stomach acid production and decrease pain from ulcers. Consume bread that has at least 2g of fiber per slice and choose vegetables such as carrots, celery and broccoli.

    Treatment

    • While food can aid in the treatment of H. pylori, the only cure is an antibiotic that kills the bacteria. Antibiotics are only available by a doctor's prescription.
