Cystitis Urethritis Treatment
According to the University of Maryland, urethritis is inflammation of the urethra from any cause and cystitis is the inflammation of the bladder. Common causes include infection from bacteria such as chlamydia or gonorrhea. Viruses such as herpes simplex may also be responsible for urethritis.-
Antibiotics

When urethritis or cystitis is caused by a bacterial infection, antibiotics are used. Antibiotic treatments include oral pills or, in some cases, medication through an IV.
Pain Medication

Pain relievers such as Pyridium specifically target pain in the bladder, though other kinds of pain medication may also be prescribed.
Avoid Sexual Contact

According to the University of Maryland, patients should avoid sexual contact as this can increase inflammation in the urethra. If the cause of urethritis is infection, your sexual partner will also need to be also treated.
Avoid Chemical Irritants

Some cases of urethritis are caused by specific chemical irritants. Some common irritants include spermicides, condoms, creams and other contraceptives. In order to treat this type of urethritis, patients should avoid further contact with any irritants.
Urethritis and Cystitis

Urethritis can cause cystitis when an infection of the urethra travels further into the bladder. According to the University of Maryland, cystitis caused by infection will also require antibiotics.
