Resistant Urinary Infections
-
Urinary Infections
-
Urinary infections occur when bacteria enters your urinary tract. The infection can affect your urethra, bladder and kidney. Symptoms of urinary infection include painful urination, intense urges to urinate and fever.
Significance
-
Urinary infections are the second most common type of infection. At least one woman in five will experience one during her lifetime.
Resistant Infections
-
Resistant urinary infections occur when the infection is caused by more than one kind of bacteria. An obstruction within the urinary system can lead to infections that are harder to treat or are likely to reoccur.
Treatment
-
Resistant urinary infections can be treated with longer courses of antibiotics or by using more than one type. If an obstruction is causing the problem, surgery can remove it.
Considerations
-
Failure to find the cause of a resistant urinary infection puts you at risk to experience prolonged infections, which can lead to health problems including damage to organs like your kidneys.
