How to Strengthen the Urethra
The urethra is a tube that passes urine from your bladder to the outside of your body. When urethra muscles are weak you may suffer from incontinence or bladder control problems. The urethra can weaken after the birth of a child, or, as a result of menopausal effects. Urethra-strengthening techniques will help to lift the urethra tube and strengthen pelvic floor muscles to prevent urine leakage.Instructions

1
Practice Kegel exercises. Kegels improve the strength and elasticity of the pelvic floor muscles. When using the bathroom, contract your pelvic muscles to stop the flow of urine, or contract these muscles while you are in a sitting position. Hold the contraction for three seconds, and release for three seconds. Repeat this exercise 10 times throughout the day. As you get better at doing kegel exercises, increase the amount of time that you hold each contraction.

Exercise. Being overweight can contribute to bladder control problems. Work out for at least 20 minutes each day with a brisk walk or by lifting weights. Losing weight will relieve added pressure on your bladder allowing you better strength and control of your pelvic muscles.

Ask your physician for electrostimulation treatments. If you find it difficult to contract your muscles, your doctor can perform an electrostimulation technique using a vaginal probe, or by placing electrical probes outside of the vaginal or anal area. Stimulation of your pelvic nerves will help you duplicate the contractions of kegel exercises so that you can strengthen your urethra on your own.
