Drink six ounces to eight ounces of fluids each day. Persistent dehydration prevents the body from releasing toxins and bacteria through the urine. This toxin build-up can produce foul urine odors when an individual urinates. Drinking water can dilute and neutralize the urine's acidity. Fruit juices, like apple, pear, cranberry, and other noncitric or carbonated beverages can also neutralize urine odor.

Reduce eating certain acidic and astringent foods like asparagus or celery. The caffeine in coffee and carbonated beverages also can contribute to urine odor.

Vitamin B6, which is an antioxidant that inhibits free radicals damage and is essential for preventing cardiovascular diseases, can cause stomach cramping and strong urine odor. If taking B6 supplements, consume these supplements with a meal to help absorb its nutrients efficiently as the food will dilute some of the vitamin's properties which can create the strong odors.

Treat underlying illnesses that can create foul urine odor. Prostate and kidney infections, certain sexually transmitted diseases, diabetic ketoacidosis and metabolic disorders can affect the smell of urine from the bacteria that these diseases produce in the urinary tract.
