How to Get Rid of a Weak Bladder

A weak bladder---often called overactive bladder syndrome---is very common, especially among women. The condition triggers urinary incontinence and may be accompanied by frequent, strong urges to urinate. In many cases, losing weight, other changes in lifestyle and specific muscle-strengthening exercises will help prevent leaks and strengthen your bladder.

    • 1

Study a medical encyclopedia to better understand your bladder and the anatomy of your urinary tract; this can help you figure out what's going wrong, why and what to do about it.

    • 2

Track and keep a log of when bladder leaks occur and what may be triggering them---vigorous exercise, coughing, laughing and sneezing all place pressure on the bladder, as does being overweight. And certain medications, caffeine, alcohol and diuretics can all cause the bladder to fill unusually fast, also causing incontinence.

    • 3

Perform exercises several times a day that strengthen your pelvic and sphincter muscles.
