Zithromax is an antibiotic prescribed for the treatment of many infections, including bladder and prostate infections. Bladder infections are more common in women, and prostate infections occur most often in men between the ages of 30 and 50 but can also occur in older men.-
Bladder Infection Symptoms

Symptoms of bladder infections include the urge to urinate frequently, pain and burning during urination, cloudy urine and, at times, blood in the urine. More severe bladder infections may cause fever, nausea and chills.
Prostate Infection Symptoms

Prostate infection symptoms include pain and difficulty urinating, the need to urinate more frequently, pain in the genital area and painful ejaculation. A man with a prostate infection may also experience fever, chills, a general unwell feeling and lack of energy.
Causes

Bladder infections are caused by bacteria, primarily E. coli, getting into the bladder through the urethra. Prostate infections occur when urethral infections spread into the prostate gland.
Zithromax

Zithromax is a macrolide antibiotic that is used to fight bacteria in the body. It is related to erythromycin.
Warning

Zithromax should not be taken by patients who have had allergic reactions to azithromycin or erythromycin. Due to the possibility of negative drug interactions, patients should let doctors know about all medications they are taking, including vitamins.
Length

Zithromax should be taken for the entire length of time stated on the prescription even if a patient begins feeling better prior to completing the prescription.
