Manage the symptoms. Phenazopyridine is the main ingredient in several over-the-counter medications. It helps soothe the pain and burning symptoms that accompany a UTI. These medications only help symptoms; they don't cure the infection.

2
Drink plenty of fluids. Clear liquid is best in order to flush the infection out of the bladder. Besides water, cranberry juice has long been known as a natural UTI remedy. It acts like a natural antibiotic. According to Carol J. Mulvihill, unsweetened cranberry juice helps prevent bacteria from sticking to the walls of the bladder. A 1994 study published in the New England Journal of Medicine says specific compounds (called condensed tannins) were helpful in preventing E. coli from attaching to the walls of the bladder. Blueberry juice acts in a similar manner.

Try natural supplements. Cranberry can be taken as a supplement in pill form if you find the juice to be too tart. According to Natural-herbal-remedies.net, garlic may also act as a natural antibiotic.

4
Avoid alcohol, citrus and drinks with caffeine that may irritate the bladder. In addition, these drinks only promote dehydration, not urination.

5
Keep your genital area clean and wear loose clothes to prevent additional bacteria from growing. Avoid bubble baths.
