What Are Signs of Prostate Problems?
Prostate issues are a common health concern for men. Although the majority of prostate problems occur in men over 50, younger men may also have prostate issues, which have similar symptoms as those found in older men.-
Prostatitis
-
The most common prostate complaint in men under 50 is prostatitis, which is typically caused by inflammation. Prostatitis may be caused by bacteria, although nonbacterial prostatitis is more common.
Enlarged Prostate
-
In older men, the most common prostate problem is benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), which is an enlarged prostate.
Significance
-
Because the prostate surrounds the urethra, through which urine passes when leaving the bladder, nearly all prostate problems have urinary signs and involvement.
Function
-
Frequent urination, especially at night, is a common symptom in men with prostate problems. The urethra tightens around the bladder, which prevents the bladder from emptying completely.
Types
-
Other urinary problems associated with prostate issues include traces of blood in the urine, difficulty starting to urinate, weak urine flow and being able to urinate only small amounts at a time.
