Signs of Urinary Infections
Urinary infections can occur in the bladder, kidneys, ureters, and urethra. They are caused by viruses, bacteria, fungi, and some forms of parasites that move into the bladder through the urethra. Knowing the signs of urinary infections makes subsequent treatment faster and more successful.-
Frequent Urination
-
Early signs of infection include frequent urination that produces only small amounts of liquid and a strong, persistent urge to urinate.
Burning
-
Urination accompanied by a burning sensation, blood in the urine, and a strong odor may also signal a urinary infection.
Bodily Discomfort
-
Sensations of mild discomfort or severe pain in the lower part of the back or abdomen are also signs of a urinary system infection.
Male Infections
-
Urinary infections in men are rare but are typically indicated by penile discharge and back pain in addition to the same signs women may experience.
Types
-
There exist specific types of urinary infections. Pyelonephritis, more commonly known as a kidney and pelvis infection, brings on the symptoms of fever, pain, chills, and nausea. Cystitis, also known as a bladder infection, has symptoms of pressure in the lower abdomen, discharge in women, and pus in the urine of men.
