Signs of a Male Bladder Infection

Though bladder infections are primarily diagnosed in women, men can still suffer from the condition. It is useful for men to know more about condition, including its symptoms and treatment.

    • You feel pain when urinating and have is a strong urge to urinate. Your urine may be cloudy, amber-colored and have a strong odor. You may have a low-grade fever.

    Causes

    • Men may suffer from bladder infections because of an enlarged prostate gland, also known as benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH. Additional causes include infections, narrowing of the urethra caused by surgery, the presence of kidney stones or the use of a urinary catheter, according to The Mayo Clinic.

    Treatment

    • Drink large amounts of water. Avoid caffeinated beverages such as coffee and soda. Your doctor may prescribe antibiotics.

    Warning

    • It is crucial that you receive proper treatment. The infection can spread to your kidneys and cause renal damage, and you may need to be hospitalized.

    Duration

    • Signs of a bladder infection typically continue for 24 to 48 hours more after the onset of treatment.
