There are two common ways both men and women experience candida symptoms: a high sugar diet and antibiotics. Sugar increases the growth of yeast, so those who have frequent outbreaks should reduce sugar or refined foods to limit yeast growth. During outbreaks, refrain from most fruits and other carbohydrates to reduce sugar levels while treating candida. In addition, refrain from junk food, alcohol, juice, soda and bread.
When you have an outbreak, eat foods such as lean protein, yogurt with acidophilus, eggs, and vegetables. Those suffering from candida may experience a craving for sugars, because the yeast thrives on carbohydrates.
Probiotics like acidophilus are recommend daily, either in yogurt or as a supplement, to fight against candida growth and replenish healthy bacteria. Probiotics also increase intestinal acid levels, destroying bacteria, which need an alkaline environment to flourish.
To treat a common yeast infection, purchase antifungal ointments or creams from the retail store, or get a prescription from your physician. Creams will relieve common symptoms such as irritation, itching and redness and in most cases clear up the bacterial infection within three to seven days.
