What Are the Causes of Dark Urine & Incontinence?

Due to the wealth of easily accessible information, we are often inundated with symptoms for so many illnesses that it is difficult to pinpoint the exact malady. Dark urine and incontinence (involuntary urine leaks) can be signs of many illness and diseases or it can simply mean nothing at all.
  1. Urine Discoloration and Incontinence

    • Discolored urine may come from foods or medications that are consumed, or from various issues within the body such as stress and dehydration. Incontinence, also known as an overactive bladder, is the inability to hold urine without leaks and having limited control of the pelvic muscles.

    Stress

    • Dark urine and incontinence can be caused by having a weak pelvic wall that is not functioning properly. This makes it virtually impossible to have complete control of the urine when it is being excreted.

    Dehydration

    • When you are dehydrated, the liquid expelled takes a long time to pass and is usually released in a dark color due to its mixture with the internal waste.

    Urinary Tract Infection

    • Bacterium found in the urinary tract from a UTI not only causes a burning sensation, the urine appears dark and incontinence occurs too.

    Cystitis

    • Cystitis is an inflamed bladder infection that occurs due to large amounts of bacteria. Cystitis causes incontinence and darker than normal urine in the urinary tract.

    Atrophic Vaginitis

    • Vaginal atrophy occurs when a woman's estrogen levels are low, therefore causing inflammation of the vaginal walls leading to urine discoloration and incontinence.
