One approach is to create a drink by mixing 1/2 tsp. of baking soda with 8 oz. of water, which raises the acid base of your urine to fight the infection. You can also mix pipsissewa, buchu, echinacea and uva ursi tinctures in equal amounts and take 1/2 tsp. every hour. For a severe infection, increase the dose to 20 drops every four hours, eventually cutting back to 1 tsp. four times a day. Another home remedy is to make an essential oil treatment by mixing sandalwood, bergamot, tea tree, frankincense and juniper oils. Mix equal amounts of these ingredients and rub them on your abdomen over your bladder. Continue this treatment for several days after the symptoms stop.

Drink mainly water, and supplement it with cranberry juice, which does a great job of stopping a urinary tract infection in its tracks. Increasing vitamin C intake will prevent bacterial growth by increasing the pH balance. Avoid foods that can increase bacteria and promote a recurrence. Cheese, chocolate, dairy products, spicy food, caffeine, alcohol, cigarettes carbonated drinks, beer, artificial sweeteners and soft drinks can trigger another UTI.
