How to Restore a Bladder With Estrogen

According to the Urology Clinic of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Around 10 million women in America alone are suffering from a frequent uncontrollable urge to urinate, a sudden desire for urination and pain while urinating. This is due to the subsequent weakening of the vaginal and uterine muscles responsible for normal control of urine flow, due to age, childbirth or other factors. In women, the bladder is supported by the vaginal front wall, and if this wall deteriorates, the bladder goes down into the vagina causing all kinds of urinary problems. Prolapsed bladders, as they are called, can best be treated with estrogen therapy. Estrogen works by restoring the rigidity of the vaginal and uterine muscles thereby reversing the process and restoring the bladder. It is important to familiarize yourself with the various ways of treating a prolapsed bladder using estrogen.

Instructions

Take 0.3 to 1.25 mg of oral conjugated estrogen every day, depending on the dosage specified for you by your doctor. You can take this medication with or without food, although you can take it right after a meal to keep yourself from getting a stomachache.

    • 2

Use 25 to 100 mg of phenylpropanolamine twice a day together with 2 g of intravaginal conjugated estrogen daily applied on the vagina, or 1.25 g of oral conjugated estrogen daily. Phenylpropanolamine exists in various forms of cough and cold preparations like Dimetapp and Robitussin-CF. This is called Combined Estrogen/Alpha-Adrenergic Agonist Therapy. Estrogen increases the response of the urethral alpha-adrenergic receptors, which are responsible for increasing urethral muscle tone, thereby restoring normal bladder functions.

Consider using an estradiol skin patch. Estradiol is the most potent form of estrogen in humans and occurs naturally. It is available in the form of a skin patch (usually sold under the brand names Climara, Vivelle, Alora, Fempatch and Estraderm). Have the patch on a clean, smooth area of the lower abdomen all the time and apply a new one every three to four days. This should be used for a few months.

Ask your doctor about the possibility of using a vaginal ring (Estring). This is another brand name of estradiol. Insert the ring into a part of the vagina specified in the leaflet and leave the ring in place for 90 days.

Use 0.5 to 2.0 g of vaginal estrogen cream daily. Put cream on the applicator based on the directions given. Insert the applicator inside the vagina and make sure that you push the plunger to release the cream. Afterwards use warm water with soap to clean the applicator.
