How to Treat Bladder Pain

Bladder infections are very common, and one can strike us when we least expect it. While this can be more annoying than painful for some, your bladder will feel as if it is cramping and you will experience burning when you urinate. The best way to treat the pain is with an over-the-counter painkiller and taking on the real problem--the infection itself.

Instructions

    • 1

Before you try to treat the pain yourself, you must make an appointment with your doctor. Bladder infections seem innocuous, but if they are not treated with proper care, they can become very serious.

    • 2

While waiting for your doctor's appointment, try taking an over-the-counter painkiller such as aspirin or ibuprofen. Read the label for the proper dosage.

    • 3

Drinking cranberry juice, or taking cranberry supplements if you do not like the taste of cranberry juice, can help cleanse your urinary tract of bacteria. Although it does not help with the pain, the cranberry will help fight the infection that is causing the pain.

Drinking lots of fluids will help flush out the bad bacteria. Water and juices are best. Try to avoid caffeinated beverages because they tend to irritate the bladder.

    • 5

Follow your doctor's instructions, which may involve taking a prescription drug.
