Symptoms of a Bladder Infection During Pregnancy

Many pregnant women experience bladder infections. A bladder infection is caused by the uterus sitting on top of the urethra and blocking the flow of urine. Symptoms of a bladder infection include frequent urination, a burning sensation, abdominal pain and cloudy urine.
  1. Frequent Urination

    • Those suffering from bladder infection may feel the need to urinate more frequently even though only a little bit of fluid may pass during urination.

    Burning

    • Often, the most painful symptom of a bladder infection may be a burning sensation when trying to urinate.

    Abdominal Pain

    • Bladder infections may cause lower abdominal pain in pregnant women. This pain may range from mild to very severe.

    Cloudy Urine

    • Normal urine color should be very pale or even clear. When a bladder infection is present, it may be cloudy in color.

    Warning

    • A bladder infection in pregnancy may cause complications to the mother and unborn fetus. These complications include preterm labor, low birth weight, kidney infections and developmental delays.
