Vesicare Side Effects

Vesicare is the brand name for the medication solifenacin succinate, prescribed to treat symptoms of an overactive bladder (OAB). Vesicare relaxes the muscle in the bladder wall which tends to spasm in OAB.
  1. Most Common Effects

    • In pre-approval clinical studies, as delineated by eMedTV, the most common side effect of Vesicare was dry mouth, experienced by nearly 30 percent of participants in some studies. Constipation also was common, in up to 13 percent of participants.

    Gastrointestinal Side Effects

    • Besides constipation, other Vesicare gastrointestinal side effects occurring for 1 to 4 percent of people include heartburn, indigestion, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

    Additional Side Effects

    • Additional side effects include blurred vision, coughing, dizziness, dry eyes, fatigue, high blood pressure, sore throat, urinary tract infection and water retention in the feet, ankles or calves.

    Serious Side Effects

    • Serious side effects are rare. They include severe constipation, difficulty urinating, worsening of glaucoma, confusion and depression.

    Allergic Reactions

    • Allergic reactions to Vesicare also are rare. Symptoms are a rash, hives, itching, facial swelling and wheezing.
