How to Get Rid of a Urinary Tract Infection Without Medication

A urinary tract infection, also called UTI, is a bacterial infection that affects the urine. Although urine contains many proteins, it does not generally contain bacteria. This bacteria can burn the skin in the urinary tract, creating a burning sensation. If the bacteria spreads, the infection can worsen quickly, but it is possible to cure a urinary tract infection with other alternatives to medication.

Instructions

    • 1

Drink diluted cranberry juice. Mix one part unsweetened cranberry juice with three parts water.

    • 2

Use the bathroom as much as possible. As you are drinking the solution, continue to flush out your bladder of any bacteria that may be multiplying. Try to drink enough fluids in order to urinate at least every 20 minutes.

    • 3

Take a hot bath. Although it is not medically proven why a hot bath is helpful in aiding urinary tract infections, it is recommended by Dr. Richard J. Macchia to relieve burning, irritation and pain.

    • 4

Take ibuprofen every four hours. Most urinary tract infections are harmless, but can be incredibly painful. Ibuprofen can take the edge off the pain and allow the body to heal.

    • 5

Take Vitamin C. According to Dr. Macchia, taking about 1,000 milligrams of Vitamin C per day can counteract the bacteria in the urine.

    • 6

Wait three or four days. If your symptoms seem to be subsiding, continue drinking water and cranberry juice to flush out your system. If you are feeling that your symptoms are worsening, go to the doctor as soon as possible.
