Uroxatral Medicine Side Effects

Uroxatral is a type of drug used to treat benign prostate hyperplasia, also commonly referred to as an enlarged prostate. You take Uroxatral once a day, and the alpha blocker relieves the symptoms associated with an enlarged prostate, including incontinence. Your doctor will likely discuss the side effects of Uroxatral with you prior to writing a prescription for the drug.
  1. Types

    • During clinical trials of Uroxatral, several side effects were frequently reported. The common side effects include fatigue, headache and dizziness. Most of the symptoms were mild and typically occurred after the first few initial usages of Uroxatral.

    Considerations

    • Uroxatral has also been associated with causing a person's blood pressure to suddenly drop. A drop in blood pressure can lead to numerous medical issues, including fainting, dizziness, lightheadedness and fatigue. This is especially a concern for patients taking medications for high blood pressure or those who have been diagnosed with low blood pressure.

    Effects

    • The side effects of Uroxatral were determined as a result of three separate clinical trials involving a total of 1,600 men. Four percent of the men taking Uroxatral withdrew from the study because of adverse side effects, while 3 percent of the men withdrew from the study while taking the placebo. Six hundred and seventy-eight of the men were given the placebo while four hundred and seventy-three were given the Uroxatral.

    Solution

    • If you do have any side effects from Uroxatral, report them immediately to your doctor. You should also stop taking the product until you have received advice from your physician. If you do feel dizzy from Uroxatral, you should lie down and put your legs up in order to prevent fainting.

    Warning

    • More serious side effects from Uroxatral can appear if you suffer from certain medical conditions. Patients with liver problems should not take Uroxatral due to the potential of the interference with liver function. You should also let your doctor know if you are taking another alpha blocker besides Uroxatral to treat high blood pressure or other prostate conditions. Additionally, severe Uroxatral side effects can occur if you have a known allergy to the active ingredient in the medicine, alfuzosin hydrochloride.
