1
Get a prescription from your family doctor as soon as your urinary tract infection is diagnosed. The sooner you get antibiotics, the better. Some common antibiotics used to treat these infections are amoxicillin, ciprofloxacin and levofloxacin.
-
2
Take the antibiotics as prescribed on the bottle. This could be once per day, twice per day or four times per day. Finish the course of antibiotics or the infection will just come back.
-
3
Eat a yogurt each day that you take the antibiotics. The yogurt will replace the good bacteria that is killed by the antibiotics. This will keep you from getting a yeast infection from the antibiotics.
-
4
Drink cranberry juice for at least a week. Cranberry is known for helping to heal urinary tract infections. Drink one full 8 oz. glass per day.
-
5
Drink seven glasses of water each day. Remember the eighth glass should be cranberry juice. The water will help to keep the urinary tract flushed.
-
6
Wear cotton under garments. Cotton breathes and air will help keep the affected area dry. Moisture is a breeding ground for bacteria.
