How to Treat a Urine Infection
-
1
Call your doctor to make an appointment. You will probably need an antibiotic to treat the condition and cure it completely.
-
2
Add cranberry juice to your daily diet. Drink 100% cranberry juice, not the cocktails that are diluted with sugar. Drink about a quart a day.
-
3
Stay hydrated. Drink as much water as you can, and try to drink a cup of water every hour. Water will help flush out the infection.
-
4
Take extra Vitamin C and add acidophilus to your daily diet. These will help your immune system as you fight the infection. Also, the acidophilus helps counteract the negative effects of the antibiotic. For instance, many people get yeast infections while on antibiotics, but acidophilus keeps these at bay.
-
5
Avoid tobacco, as smoking is known to cause urinary tract infections. Avoid caffeine as well.
-
6
Do not have sex or drink alcohol while treating the bladder infection. Again, these can make the infection worse.
-
7
Take all of the prescribed medication, even if your symptoms disappear quickly. The antibiotics your doctor prescribes may remove your symptoms after a couple of days, but if you do not complete the round of medication, you will likely get reinfected.
