Instructions

    • 1

Contact your doctor. You need to go in for a visit, which may include a rectal exam. The rectal exam gives the doctor a chance to note if the prostate gland has become enlarged.

    • 2

Start on an antibiotic treatment plan. Once a prostatitis diagnosis has been reached, your physician will likely prescribe antibiotics if the condition has come about from an infection. Certain forms of prostatitis take 6 to 12 weeks to treat.

    • 3

Ask about pain relief. Most likely your doctor will allow you to take ibuprofen or aspirin to help with the pain.

    • 4

Take a sitz bath. During a sitz bath, you sit in a chair-like tub and soak for an extended period in a warm water. This soaking can relieve any pain and relax the body.

    • 5

Perform mild exercises. Stretching the pelvic area gently can often relieve prostatitis symptoms.

    • 6

Drink plenty of liquids. Consuming a lot of water helps you urinate often which can prevent further outbreaks.
