Can You Break Your Penis?

While rare, it is possible for a penis to fracture (break) during strenuous sexual intercourse, particularly in the missionary position. Most penile fractures are caused by blunt force trauma, such as when the penis is forcefully bent, struck, or compressed against a hard surface.

Symptoms of a fractured penis include:

- Sudden, severe pain during intercourse or afterwards

- A popping sound or snapping sound during intercourse

- Penile deformity, such as a bent, swollen, or twisted penis

- Bruising and swelling on the penis or scrotum

- Difficulty or inability to urinate

If you experience any of these symptoms, seek medical attention immediately. Most penile fractures can be treated with surgery to realign and stabilize the broken bone. Failure to seek prompt treatment can lead to complications such as erectile dysfunction, penile curvature, and pain during sex.
