What is urethrolysis?

Urethrolysis is a surgical procedure performed to correct a stricture, or narrowing, of the urethra. The urethra is the tube that carries urine from the bladder out of the body. A urethral stricture can cause difficulty urinating, pain, and infection.

Urethrolysis involves surgically widening the narrowed section of the urethra. This can be done by cutting through the stricture, removing scar tissue, or using a balloon to stretch the urethra. In some cases, a stent may be placed in the urethra to keep it open.

Urethrolysis is usually performed on an outpatient basis, meaning that the patient can go home the same day. The procedure typically takes about an hour to complete. Recovery from urethrolysis is usually quick and easy, with most patients able to return to their normal activities within a few days.

Urethrolysis is a safe and effective procedure for treating urethral strictures. It can help to relieve symptoms and improve urinary function.
