How to Prepare Potassium Citrate
Things You'll Need
- Potassium citrate tablets
- 2 glasses of water, 4, 6 or 8 oz. each
- or
- Potassium citrate crystals or liquid
- Juice or water, 4, 6 or 8 oz.
- Dosage measuring spoon

Taking Potassium Citrate Tablets

Place the potassium citrate tablet on your tongue.

Immediately drink a full 8 ounces of water followed by a second 8 ounces to clear any dissolved medicine from your mouth or throat.

Contact your doctor if the pills aren't easy to swallow or stick in your throat.
Taking Liquid Potassium Citrate

Measure the prescribed dosage of potassium citrate using the dosage measuring spoon.

Pour the liquid into either 4, 6 or 8 ounces of juice or water, depending upon your prescription.

Drink the juice or water slowly but do not hold it in your mouth.

Add a little more water or juice to the glass if some medicine remains in the bottom. Swirl the juice or water around to mix and drink quickly.
Taking Crystallized Potassium Citrate

Measure out the prescribed dosage of crystals using the dosage measuring spoon or open the packet the dosage comes in.

Stir well into a glass of water or juice, either 4, 6 or 8 ounces, depending upon your doctor's orders.

Drink the mixture slowly, making sure you completely consume the entire dose.

Add a little more water or juice to the glass and swirl before quickly drinking if any medication is left in the bottom of the glass.

Drink another glass of water or juice to rid your mouth of the medicine's flavor if necessary.
