Mono Virus Cures
Mononucleosis is a virus passed through bodily fluid--usually spit, which is why it is called "the kissing disease." Because mono is a virus, antibiotics are useless in treating it, so there is no easy "cure" for mono--just rest and time. However, there are some things you can do to make yourself feel better while you have mono.-
Rest and Relaxation
-
People who have contracted mono often feel exhausted all the time. If you have mono, sleep as much as you need to--at least 10 to 12 hours each night. Avoid exercising and any physical activity that could cause you to feel overly exhausted or could cause your spleen, which is enlarged when you have mono, to rupture.
In general, if you feel tired or physically exhausted, relax. School, work and your social life can wait.
Food and Drink
-
The glands in your throat may be swollen and feel sore when you have mono, so drink something that will make your throat feel better. Water is the best fluid, because it helps hydrate your body as well. Gargling with salt water once a day also may help make your sore throat feel better.
Try to keep a balanced diet without too much starch or sugar. Make sure to eat enough every day, even if you don't feel very hungry--your body still needs the nutrients.
Avoid alcohol and caffeine, both of which will dehydrate your body and wear you down even more.
Medicine and Vitamins
-
While there are no medicines to cure mono, you can take over-the-counter drugs to treat any symptoms you may have--a pain reliever for a sore throat or fever, a decongestant if you find yourself stuffed up, etc.
You may have contracted mono because your immune system is weak, so a daily multivitamin or herbal supplement can help as well. Plus, vitamins will ensure you get a good dose of all the vitamins and minerals your body needs, especially if your appetite isn't all that great.
