Can viruses be cured by vaccines?

Vaccines help prevent, not cure, viral infections. Vaccination works by introducing a weakened or inactivated version of a virus into the body, allowing the immune system to develop antibodies against it without causing disease. When the body is later exposed to the actual virus, the immune system can quickly recognize and fight it off, preventing illness. However, once someone is infected with a virus, vaccines can no longer prevent or cure the disease; instead, treatment focuses on managing symptoms and preventing complications. Some viruses, such as HIV and hepatitis C, may have chronic or persistent infections that require ongoing management or antiviral therapy.
