How does the west nile virus spread?

West Nile virus (WNV) is spread by the bite of an infected mosquito. This mosquito becomes infected when it feeds on a bird infected with the virus. Once the mosquito has become infected, it can then transmit the virus to humans and other animals when it bites them.
