Where did the topic of ebola come from?

Ebola virus disease (formerly known as Ebola haemorrhagic fever) is named after the Ebola River in the Democratic Republic of Congo, or what was formerly Zaire, where it was first discovered in 1976. The virus was initially known as Zaire ebolavirus, but was renamed Ebola virus in 2010.
