Is West Nile virus contagious among people?

West Nile virus is not spread from person to person. Most people infected with the virus never show symptoms. Those who do develop symptoms usually have a mild form of the disease with symptoms including fever, headache, body aches, and fatigue. In rare cases, the virus can cause serious illness and death. The virus can be spread from infected birds to mosquitoes and then to humans. It can also be spread through blood transfusions and organ transplants.
