Why can monkeys get Ebola?

Monkeys and great apes can catch Ebola in the wild, and can potentially transmit it to humans. Like humans, monkeys and great apes are highly susceptible to infection with the virus, and can develop severe disease. This is because they share many similarities in their immune systems and physiology with humans.
