What types of warts are there?
Warts are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), which infects the skin and mucous membranes. There are many different types of warts, each caused by a different strain of HPV. Some of the most common types of warts include:
* Common warts: These are small, round, raised bumps that can occur anywhere on the body, but are most commonly found on the hands and feet.
* Plantar warts: These are warts that grow on the soles of the feet. They can be painful when walking or standing.
* Filiform warts: These are thin, elongated warts that often grow on the face, neck, and underarms.
* Flat warts: These are small, flat warts that can occur in large numbers on the face, arms, and legs.
* Genital warts: These are warts that grow in the genital area. They can be sexually transmitted.
Warts are usually harmless and will go away on their own within a few months to a few years. However, some warts can be painful or embarrassing, and may need to be treated. Treatment options for warts include topical medications, cryotherapy (freezing), laser therapy, and surgical removal.
