Instructions

    • 1

Take an over-the-counter antihistamine as soon as possible. The antihistamine will help relieve itching from fire ant bites.

    • 2

Apply ammonia to the fire ant bite within the first 15 minutes of being bitten. This treatment will have no effect after the 15 minute time limit. Fire ant venom contains an alkaloid and some protein. Ammonia works because it will break down the protein, which will lessen pain.

    • 3

Mix baking soda with a little bit of water to form a paste. Apply the baking soda mixture directly on the affected area. Baking soda will offer pain relief and will also help relieve itching.

    • 4

Pour white vinegar on your fire ant bites to neutralize alkalinity. This can be done at any point to relieve pain and itchiness.

    • 5

Rub an anti-itch cream to the fire ant bite, as needed. Any type of antihistamine cream will work, but especially those formulated specifically for insect bites.

    • 6

Soak your fire ant bites in a warm bath filled with 3 cups of Borax. The Borax will aid in taking the poison out of the bite.
