How to Treat Cuts to Avoid Scars
Scars are formed from collagen, which naturally occurs in the second layer of skin. When the first and second layer of skin is cut, collagen will seep to the first layer of skin. Scars can vary in appearance depending on many factors, such as the size of the cut, age, skin color and location of the injury. To avoid scarring, start treating the cut or wound as soon as possible.Things You'll Need

1
Wash the cut with warm water and mild soap. You will want to remove any dirt or debris, which can infect the wound.
-
2
Apply a clean bandage to the wound and apply pressure until the bleeding stops. Remove the bandage and apply a scar ointment, such as Neosporin. Repeat this process for one week to keep the wound moist and to promote new skin growth.
-
3
Massage the wound regularly when new skin begins to grow in order to help break down the collagen. Use lotion to massage the wound. While massaging, apply pressure and rub in a circular motion. Do this several times a day for 15 to 30 seconds.

Cover up the healing cut when going outside. Sun exposure can cause skin discoloration and make the scar more prominent.
