How to Heal a Tattoo Faster

A common problem with tattoos is dissatisfaction. They often fade with time or the ink bleeds, blurring the image. Tattoos are permanent, and you should not decide to get one thinking it can easily be removed if you do not like it. If you do decide that a tattoo is the thing for you, be aware of the health risks involved, such as allergic reactions and infections. Choose a clean tattoo parlor, and care for your tattoo properly until it is healed.

  • Hand soap (antibacterial or antimicrobial)
  • Towel or paper towel
  • Antibacterial ointment

      Remove the bandage from your tattoo after one to two hours. Do not leave it on much longer or you risk having the bandage stick to your tattoo.

      Wash your tattoo gently with antibacterial hand soap and lukewarm water. Use your hand as opposed to a wash cloth, which may be abrasive or irritating to the skin. Clean the area as thoroughly as possible to prevent scabbing.

      Dry the area by patting it with a clean towel. Do not rub your skin with the towel.

      Apply a very thin coating of antibacterial or vitamin enriched ointment, such as Bacitracin, to the skin. Do not re-cover your tattoo with a bandage, as it needs to breathe to heal properly, but continue to clean your tattoo daily.

      Apply sunblock any time your tattoo is going to be exposed. This will keep the ink from fading.
