How to Treat a Cut on a Thin Skin Area

Unfortunately, cuts and bruises are an unavoidable part of life. As you move through your day, it's only to be expected that you will occasionally bonk your shin or hit your head. While cuts are easy to deal with, getting one on a thin-skinned area like a shin can be problematic and a little more painful. If you have recently earned a nasty nick, you can clean it up and get it healthy with some simple maintenance.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold a clean cloth over the cut to stop the bleeding. Your cut should stop bleeding on its own, but you can help the process along with some gentle pressure.

    • 2

Wash your hands thoroughly with gentle hand soap and then wash the wound. A warm rinse should do the trick.

    • 3

Rub a thin layer of antiseptic ointment or lotion over the cut to help prevent infection and hasten the healing process.

    • 4

Place an adhesive bandage over the cut if it is in an area that will rub against your clothing or is likely to get dirty. Replace the bandage as needed.
