How to Make an Ice Pack That Won't Melt

Having an ice pack around can be very useful for relieving everyday pain or discomfort. Unfortunately, not every freezer makes ice and it can be inconvenient to have to refill an ice tray just so you can have an ice pack ready. On top of that, melting ice packs can create a mess that you then have to clean while you're hurting. There is a much easier solution that simply uses uncooked rice and an old sock.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill your sock with uncooked rice until it is 2/3 of the way filled. The amount of rice you'll need depends on the size of the sock you're using, but is usually between three and five cups.

    • 2

Add a drop or two of essential oils to the rice, if you like. This can make the ice pack more relaxing.

    • 3

Tie a knot in the top of the sock, or use yarn to seal the sock. You may want to double knot the sock to make sure no rice falls out.

    • 4

Place the rice-filled sock into the freezer. After an hour the rice should be cold enough to use as an ice pack.
