How to Get Rid of a Nose Bleed Fast

If blood makes you feel uneasy, then blood pouring from your nose probably isn't a welcome sight. Nosebleeds are fairly common but harmless and occur when your nose is dry or if you've picked your nose. Although many people believe that tilting your head back and shoving a tissue into your nostril is the correct way to quickly stop nose bleeds, that method will cause blood to drip down your throat, which can irritate your stomach.

Instructions

    • 1

Sit down in a chair and lean forward, so your chin is above the left side of your chest.

    • 2

Press your thumb gently against the nostril that is bleeding. If both sides of your nose are bleeding, then press your thumb against one nostril and your index finger from the same hand against the other nostril. Hold a paper towel or tissue below your nose.

    • 3

Hold your nose for at least five minutes. Gently lift your thumb from your nostril to check if your nose is still bleeding. If your nose has quit bleeding, continue to sit or walk around slowly for 10 minutes, and do not lift anything or blow your nose during that time.
